I don’t know if this is something happened to you too, but in this past year and a half of isolation, disinfectant gel and masks, I found myself thinking about the best option I can offer guests to dry their hands (call me crazy!).

It took me very little to understand that the best thing was washcloths. Those disposable small towels that can be found so easy in Switzerland even in restaurants. They are personal, in some way disposable because they are used only once but made of cotton and therefore washable. They combine the practicality of disposable (in this period in my opinion highly appreciated) with the environmental compatibility of the washable.

To make everithing even more ecological, we will make them starting from old towels. A very simple project, even more so if you have an Overlook machine. In fact, it will only be a question of cutting the towel into 4 or 6 parts depending on the starting size and finishing these new pieces to make washcloths.

If you don’t have the Overlook machine you can finish them with a zig-zag or add a contrasting trimmings that will make them even more graceful.

Once you have made your washcloths, you just have to find a nice way to arrange them in the guest bathroom. I thought about recycling a wooden box that I found at my grandmother’s house.

Since this is a used and rather old container, I retouched it with putty where it needed, then I repainted it (I’m in my white period .. :-)) and sewed an internal lining decorated with a nice lace border.

The project of an afternoon but super appreciated and very useful.

Non so voi, ma io in questo anno e mezzo passato tra isolamento, gel disinfettante e mascherine mi sono trovata a pensare a quale fosse l’opzione migliore da offrire agli ospiti per asciugarsi le mani. Ci ho messo poco a pensare la cosa migliore fossero le lavette. Quegli asciugamanini monouso che si trovano tanto in svizzera anche nei locali. Sono personali, in qualche modo usa e getta perché si usano solo una volta ma di cotone e quindi lavabili. Uniscono la praticità del monouso (in questo periodo secondo me apprezzatissimo) alla compatibilità ambientale del lavabile.

Per renderle poi ancora più ecologiche le realizzeremo partendo da vecchi asciugamani. Un progetto semplicissimo, ancora di più se avete la taglia e cuci. Si tratterà infatti solo di tagliare l’asciugamano in 4 o 6 parti a seconda della misura di partenza e rifinire questi nuovi pezzettini per farne delle lavette.

Se non avete la taglia e cuci potete rifinirli a zig-zag o aggiungere una passamaneria a contrasto che li renderà ancora più graziosi.

Una volta realizzate le vostre lavette dovrete solo trovare un modo carino per disporle nel bagno degli ospiti. Io ho pensato di riciclare una scatola di legno che ho trovato a casa della nonna.

Trattandosi di un contenitore usato e piuttosto vecchio, l’ho ritoccato con lo stucco dove necessitava poi l’ho ridipinto (sono nel mio periodo bianco.. 🙂 ) e ho cucito un rivestimento interno decorato con un bel bordo di pizzo. Il progetto di un pomeriggio ma super apprezzato e utilissimo.
