Some months ago we had to replace our lovely external hard disk as it decided to crash. It was shocking, suddenly there was no music, no films and no more series! We were out for the weekend with no connection to the digital world! After some minutes of craziness we decided to use time in different way and buy another HD as soon as possible.

New HD means a new excuse to sew something 🙂 I simply cannot leave a things ‘nude’!
This time I want something simple and easy, we need it right now, it has to be not too ‘girlie’ as the HD owner is the husband, so..

So jeans! We can put the new HD in a jeans pocket!

We will need: basic-sewing kit, two jeans back pockets, strings or ribbon, safe-pin.

A) Cut the two pockets with a border of 1cm and a piece of jeans with a length of 2 times your pockets plus 2cm and a high of 5cm. B) Put together the two pockets right side to right side and sew on three sides following the pokets shape. If you have a zipper foot this could help. Cut off the extra fabric and finish the internal seams with a zig-zag stitch.

C) Take the rectangular piece we cut and fix it on the top of your work starting fom one of the lateral seams. Sew all around your open, then put together the two sides of your top border leaving a hole, we will use it for the ribbon. Once done take the upper part of your sack and fold inside 0,5cm of fabric, press it and use it to cover the internal seam, pin it in place ad sew all around. This is exactly the same process we use for  the bye-bye bags.

D) Take your ribbon and use the safe pin to pass it trought the hole all around your open. Close it and DONE!

If you want you can use velcro to close the external pokets, you will have a nice bag for your HD with separate places for cable and USB drive. This is just my personal use 😉

Alcuni mesi fa il nostro amato hard disk portatile ha deciso di abbandonarci dopo anni di fedele e impeccabile servizio. Inizialmente lo shock è stato grande, da un secondo all’altro ci siamo ritrovati completamente a corto di musica, film e serie TV, eravamo in montagna senza connessione internet quindi l’isolamento tecnologico è stato pressochè totale! Poco male, abbiamo usato il tempo in modi alternativi e ci siamo procurati nel pù breve tempo possibile un nuovo HD.

Nuovo HD significa una nuova scusa per cucire qualcosa 🙂 Vorremo mica lasciare questo nuovo amico di, speriamo, mille avventure ‘nudo’!! Ragioniamo; niente di troppo complesso, ci serve subito; niente di troppo femminile, il padrone nominale dell’HD è il marito 🙂 ; niente di troppo leggero, un minimo di protezione ci sta; quindi?!

Quindi jeans! Lo infiliamo sostanzialmente in una tasca dei jeans!

Cosa ci serve: le due tasche posteriori di un vecchio paio di jeans, kit da cucito, cordone o stringa, spilla da balia, chiusura a strozzo di plastica.

A) Ritagliamo le due tasche lasciando circa 1cm di bordo sui lati. Ritagliamo anche una striscia di circa 5cm di spessore lunga un po’ più della somme delle due tasche, ci servirà come bordo di chiusura.B) Appaiamo le due tasche dritto su dritto e cuciamo lungo i lati verticali seguendo la forma delle tasche. Usate il piedino da cerniera se lo avete, rende questo passaggio molto più semplice. Rifinite la cucitura internamente con un punto zig-zag fitto. 

C) Fissiamo ora nella parte alta la striscia di 5cm. Partiamo da una delle due cuciture laterali in modo da arrivare a congiungere le due estremità del bordo in linea con la cucitura stessa. Quando andiamo a congiungere le estremità ricordiamoci da lasciare un foro . Sarà quello che ci servirà per far passare la stringa per la chiusura a strozzo.
Una volta fissate le due estremità della striscia ritagliamo il materiale in eccesso, rigiriamo la striscia all’interno e cuciamo. Il procedimento è praticamente lo stesso seguito per la realizzazione dei sacchetti.

D) Usando l’apertura laterale ed aiutandovi con una spilla da balia fate passare il cordone all’interno del risvolto. Inserite la chiusura a strozzo ed annodate. Fatto!

Se volete potete usare un po’ di velcro per chiudere meglio le due tasche esterne, avrete così una comoda busta in cui riporre HD, cavo di alimentazione e chiavette USB. Ovviamente questa è la mia interpretazione 😉

Comunque.. Il nostro HD si trova benissimo 🙂
