Last spring we changed the kitchen chairs (some old wood ikea chairs). Looking at the “sitting surface” we thought that they could be used as a “painting surface”, after some days I found the ‘inspiration’ on a magazine!

So, this is the story of a simple recycling wood project: create garden tags 🙂

• First of all we cut the surface into small pieces, the ones you see in the pictures are 8cmx11cm. If you prefer not to cut them at home you can by the pieces (in the dimensions you need) in an hobby store.
• Finalize the pieces with the sandpaper until you have a smooth surface.
• If you want you can change the colour of the background painting it, I love natural wood colour so I choose not to paint it.
• Now we have to define the painting area, I want to give the idea of a blackboard so I define the area with ruler and a pencil (5cmx6cm) and than paint it in black with acrylic paint and brushes.
• I found the decoration idea on a magazine, it is really simple but the final look is so nice: just use two different colours and paint a little vertical line using two brushes of the same size. If you decide to use a neutral colour like I did (white) you can make a line of the first colour and than, once dry, make the lines with the second one (in my case green, pink, red).
• Once the paint is dry make a little dot (you can make a star or heart) on each line with the opposite colour.
• Look for simple model, I choose daisy flowers, drow it on the blackboard with a pencil (you can erase it so don’t worry if you need to repeated it some times). Once you’re happy with the result start paint it.
• Let your work dry and than paint it, on all faces, with a natural transparent colour for external use.
• Once dry, if you like, you can take a permanent marker and make some decorations (I love the dotted line effect near the blackboard). let the tecorations dry and than paint again with the transparent (more then once 🙂 )
• To finalize my work I made a little hole on the bottom of the tag with a drill and fix in the hole a piece of hanger (you know, the metal once)

Now just define where you wotld like to see your new garden tags!

La scorsa primavera abbiamo cambiato le sedie della cucina (delle classiche sedie in legno Ikea) mentre le smontavamo per buttarle abbiamo pensato che le ‘sedute’ poteva prestarsi ad altri usi, così abbiamo tenute da parte. Finché l’idea è arrivata!

Questo progetto racconta proprio quell’idea, uno spunto molto semplice per il riciclo del legno: realizzare delle targhette da giardino 🙂

• Per prima cosa scegliete la dimensione delle targhette e ritagliatele. Quelle che vedete nelle foto sono circa 8cmx11cm. Se non avete un buon rapporto con il taglio del legno potete acquistare i pezzi già tagliati in un qualsiasi negozio di fai da te.
• Rifinite la superficie con la carta vetrata.
• Se volete potete cambiare il colore di fondo dei pezzi, a me l’effetto legno piaceva quindi non ho dato ‘basi’.
• Ora definiamo l’area in cui andremo a pitturare, mi piaceva molto l’idea (rubata ad una rivista) di ricreare un effetto lavagna al centro, inserendo delle greche sopra e sotto. Aiutandomi con matita e righello disegno la mia lavagna di 5cmx6cm e ne coloro l’area con dell’acrilico nero.
• Anche l’idea per le greche arriva da una rivista. Sono molto semplici, potete realizzarle facendo delle righe verticali in due colori alternati (usate due pennelli della stessa larghezza). Nel mio caso, visto che uno dei due colori è neuto (bianco), anzichè alternare i colori in verticale ho fatto la riga di base bianca e, una volta asciutta, ci sono ‘andata sopra’ con il secondo colore.
• Lasciate asciugare la base della greca, poi andate a fare su ogni riga delle piccole decorazioni (puntini, stelline, cuoricini) alternando i colori (bianco sul colorato, colorato sul bianco)
• Scegliete dei disegni semplici e riportateli a matita sulla vostra ‘lavagna’. Potete cancellare tranquillamente quindi non vi preoccupate se avete bisogno di ripetere il disegno più volte. Quando sarete soddisfatti armatevi di acrilici e pennello e colorate.
• Lasciate asciugare bene il vostro lavoro poi passate, su tutti i lati, una finitura trasparente per esterni (la mia è all’acqua). Quando il primo strato di finitura sarà asciuto prendete un pennarello indelebile e rifinite i disegni (ombre, trattini, decorazioni..), lasciate asciugare e ripassate il trasparente (più volte).
• Per finalizzare le decorazioni ho fatto un buco sul fondo dei ‘quadretti’ e vi ho incollato un pezzo di fil-di-ferro grosso (io ho usato quello delle grucce da tintoria).

Ora non vi resta che decidere dove andare a collocare le vostre decorazioni ed aggiungere il nome della pianta ‘segnalata’.
