This post is all about the lovely fabric I bought last year for the kitchen curtains. Yes, one year for a pair of simple plane curtains.. I know… But, we are still work on the attic renovation (this is the bigger renovation project we have ever done by ourselves) and, with the ordinary life becoming stressfull day by day, I’m having trouble to find time to make, or time to write, about making. I’m quite sure you can understand me.. If not.. Please share your secret!!

As I was telling you, last year I bougt this lovely fabric “Oh my deer – Marmalade“ and finally I have my new curtains 🙂
My kitchen window is on the street so I use this cotton fabric to make it much more private. I really like the animal pattern and I’m quite happy with the result.

This is not a complex project, the curtains are plane with a bottom weight that makes them straight, but I was able to match the animals from one to the other glass 😎 and to save enought fabric to make a cover for the poang chair of the entrance. This is the project I’m going to write you about 😉

Our chair is coming from grandparents house so, even if it was in really good shape, the cover was quite faded. I decided to dye it from red to black, wich seems a better colour as base for the new fabric.
Once you took off the cover from the foam rubber cuscions to dye make a lining for them as this will make much more easier to put the cover on again 🤓 .

The poang cuscion is made of two parts (saddle and backrest) joined together. Once in position the joined point is not visible. My idea was to use this point for fixing the new cover so I sew here a stripe of Velcro (the soft part).

For the cover I cutted a piece of fabric with the same width of the cuscion and aproximately 45cm longer; then, once refined the edges, I’ve put the fabric on the cuscion to understand where to fix the Velcro stripe (the hooked part this time) and sew it in place. I’ve done the same with other two stripes of Velcro, on top and bottom of the fabric so I have three fixing point for the cover wich is perfectly secured and easily removed if you need to wash it.

P.S. If you need a weight for the curtains try an alluminium bar instead of proper curtains weights, You can save quite a lot 🤓

Che è tantissimo tempo che non pubblico non lo scrivo nemmeno più… A mia discolpa posso dire che, oltre al normale casino di tutti i giorni, lavoro, casa, giardino, stiamo cercando di rendere agibile la mansarda e non è un lavoro semplice 😅. Spero di poterne scrivere presto, perchè significherebbe esserci riusciti! Fino ad ora è il progetto più grosso a cui abbiamo deciso di lavorare da soli 😉.

Ma bando alle ciance, non pensiamo ai progetti ancora in alto mare ma a quelli portati a termine con un certo successo (crepi la falsa modestia 🤣😎 ). In questo caso, a circa un anno dall’acquisto della stoffa… (vergognoso..) ho finalmente finito le tende per la cucina!!

Un anno, uno pensa che sia stato un progetto super complesso.. No, per niente, tende dritte, peso in fondo per tenerle tese, semplicissime. E allora, mi si chiederà, quest’entusiasmo da dove nasce?! Diciamo che ci sono due fattori, il primo è che la stampa è perfettamente allineata tra una tenda e l’altra, so che sono le basi ma non pensavo venisserno così precise 😎 il secondo è il fatto che ho avanzato abbastanza stoffa per poter ricoprire la poltrona dell’ingresso. Altro progetto super semplice che avevo in mente da un po’ e di cui volevo parlarvi qui, perchè ammettiamolo, una “Poang” a casa ce l’abbiamo tutti!!

La nostra poltrona arriva da casa dei nonni, struttura e cuscini tenuti benissimo (tipico dei nonni..) ma la fodera cominciava a mostrare qualche segno del tempo. Per prima cosa quindi ho pensato di tingerla optando per un cambio colore. Dal rosso al nero che mi sembrava si adattasse meglio alla fantasia della stoffa che volevo usare per ricoprirla.

Approfittate del tempo di tintura e ascugatura della fodera per ricoprire i cuscini in gommapiuma con una stoffa leggera e scorrevole che vi agevolerà moltissimo quando dovrete riposizionare la fodera.

Il cuscino di questa particolare poltrona è composto da due parti, la seduta e lo schienale, le cui fodere sono cucite assieme. Una volta posizionato il cuscino sulla struttura il punto di giunzione non si nota più. La mia idea era sfruttare questo punto nascosto per fissare la nuova fodera.

In pratica quello che ho fatto è stato tagliare un rettangolo di stoffa largo quanto la seduta (più i margini per l’orlo) ma di circa 45cm più lungo. Rifiniti i bordi del rettangolo, ho cucito una striscia di velcro (la parte morbida) nel punto di giunzione dei due cuscini, in modo che una volta posizionato il cuscino sulla sedia il velcro fosse nascosto, ho poi appoggiato la fodera sul cuscino segnando dove andava a cadere il velcro e li ho attaccato la parte uncinata del velcro stesso. In questo modo la fodera segue la forma del cuscino e rimane fissa, senza stropicciarsi..
Ho poi replicato lo stesso processo con il velcro all’inizio ed alla fine della fodera, in questo modo ho ottenuto tre punti di fissaggio nascosti. La fodera non si muove e quando la voglio lavare basta un secondo 🙂

P.P.S. Se avete bisogno di un peso per le tende potreste risparmiare un po’ utilizzando una barra liscia di alluminio da tagliare a misura anzichè acquistare un ‘peso’ fatto.
