This is a really nice book, well done, with precise and detailed project. All the designs, as the author told us, are inspired from cottages and country gardens so if you like this kind of style you will love this book.

I’ve bought ‘Country Cottage Quilting’ as I thought it was about ‘quilting’ so less about blocks making and assembling and more about the quilting process and techniques. At first I was quite disappointed about the few indications on quilting, but at the end I’m glad I’ve bought it and I’m going to tell you why :-).

Linette Anderson show us 15 beautiful projects combining stitchery with patchwork, from needle case to bags, passing through sewing case, picture, pillows and quilts. Any step of each project is described in details with schemes and gorgeous photos of the items (not a photo tutorial book).

At the beginning of each chapter you will found a list of  what is needed and at the end a ‘Material and Equipment’ and a ‘Techniques’ sections, with really useful indications and suggestions. In the last part of the book you will found all the stitchery and appliqué templates (most have been reduced to fit the pages).

This is a really complete book, you can easily follow the process and make lovely items even if you’re not a pro choosing from gorgeous designs.

La prima cosa che da dire su questo libro, oltre che è molto bello, è che non è un libro sul ‘Quilting’. O almeno non è quello che io mi aspettavo.

Linette Anderson ci presenta 15 bellissimi progetti che combinano tecniche di patchwork, ricamo ed appliqué e che vanno dalla trapunta ai cuscini, passando per le decorazioni da parete e le borse. Ogni progetto  ci viene mostrato finito e raccontato in ogni passaggio. Spesso alla descrizione si accompagnano degli schemi per l’assemblaggio ed il ricamo. All’inizio di ogni progetto troviamo la lista dei materiali necessari e degli strumenti consigliati.

Tecniche e suggerimenti si trovano anche in una sezione ad hoc al termine del libro, così come i modelli, molti dei quali sono stati rimpiccioliti per poter essere comodamente raccolti all’interno del volume.

Quello che mi aspettavo io, avrei dovuto prestare più attenzione al sottotitolo del libro, era una descrizione dettagliata anche della parte di trapuntatura che invece è si uno degli argomenti trattati ma non così in profondità come pensavo.

Detto questo il libro in se è assolutamente ben fatto, almeno per i miei standard, i progetti sono vari sia come tipologia che come difficoltà, solo il tema rimane costante, disegni, appliqué e ricami si ispirano infatti al ‘country cottage’. Il cottage inglese è reso sia graficamente, molti progetti lo riportano applicato, sia come stile, colori, forme e temi.

Per concludere, avrò anche acquistato questo libro per ‘errore’ ma è presto diventato uno dei miei preferiti. Lo sconsiglio solo se si è proprio alle primissime armi considerando che seguire i passaggi in inglese senza foto tutorial potrebbe risultare difficile, per il resto: consigliatissimo.
