Il progetto: abbiamo trasformato un vecchio canovaccio in un sacchetto porta verdura da frigo. Il procedimento, che riporto qui sotto, è molto semplice.

Cosa ci serve: kit da cucito base, canovaccio, cotone fantasia in tonalità accostabili al canovaccio (vanno bene anche ritagli di vecchi progetti).

A) Partiamo dalla decorazione, nel mio caso sono andata ad applicare due strisce di cotone a stampa floreale per ravvivare un po’ il canovaccio.
Per prima cosa andiamo a tagliare le due strisce di cotone, le vogliamo leggermente più lunghe della larghezza del canovaccio e di altezza variabile in base al nostro gusto, le mie erano alte 5cm (3cm una volta finite).
Stiriamo ora le strisce ripiegando all’interno 1cm del bordo superiore ed 1cm di quello inferiore; avremo così due strisce finite alte 3cm. Posizioniamo le decorazioni sul canovaccio, le fissiamo e le cuciamo a filo del bordo esterno sia sul lato superiore che su quello inferiore. In questo modo andremo a fissare con una sola cucitura l’orlo della decorazione e la stessa sul canovaccio. Se le strisce sporgono troppo dal bordo tagliatele a filo.

B) Pieghiamo ora il canovaccio a metà lasciando il lato decorato verso l’interno, fissiamo con gli spilli e cuciamo lungo 2 dei tre lati aperti. Il terzo ci servirà da apertura per il sacchetto. Una volta cucito togliete gli spilli e rivoltate. Fatto!

Ora, se volete, per completare il lavoro andiamo a cucire un nastrino che servirà per chiudere il nostro sacchetto. Io ho utilizzato la stessa stoffa usata per le decorazioni ma potete ricavare il nastro anche cucendo insieme scampoli di cotone che vi sono avanzati da vecchi progetti. Questa volta ci servirà una striscia lunga poco più del doppio della larghezza del nostro sacchetto e alta 6cm. Andremo a stirarla, come fatto per le decorazioni, ripiegando 1cm su tutti i bordi, non solo superiore ed inferiore ma anche anche sulle due estremità più corte. Fatto questo pieghiamo a metà la nostra striscia sull’asse orizzontale, quello che vogliamo è infatti un lungo nastro. Dovreste ottenere una striscia finita alta 2cm. Fissiamo tutto con gli spilli e cuciamo. Ora potete cucire il nastro al vostro sacchetto con due punti.

Ovviamente la decorazione del canovaccio e quindi del sacchetto puo’ essere fatta in mille modi diversi: disegni, aplique, ricami, qualunque idea vi venga in mente 🙂

Potete usare il sacchetto anche per ‘sbattere’ l’insalata dopo averla lavata, in campeggio lo trovo utilissimo 😉

It was a really easy project, we transformed an old coocking canvas into a sack you can use to put vegetable in the fridge (not sure of this grammatical structure..)

We will need: basic-sewing kit, canvas, cotton fabric (you can use scraps of old projects)

A) We will start from the decoration. I have added two flowered stripes of cotton so we need to cut them from the fabric. We need two stripes a little bit longer than the canvas and hight as you like, my are 3cm finished but we will cut them in 5cm.
Iron your stripes folding 1cm on the top edge and 1 on the bottom one. At this point we will have two stripes 3cm high. Try the decorations on the canvas and onece happy with them pin in place and sew. Sew them a little over both edges so you will fix the hem and the strip with just one seam. If the stripes go too over the canvas edge, cut them off.

B) Fold your canvas in two, decorated side to decorated side, and fix it. Now sew all around on two of the three open edges. Once sewn take off the pins and reverse. Your sack is done!

If you like you can complete the work making a strim to close the sack. I’ve used the same cotton fabric of the decoration but you can made it using different scraps from old works. This time we will need a stripe 6cm high and long a little bit more than twice the width of our sack. Iron it as done for the decoration, folding 1cm on all 4 edges, than fold in a half (half high – we will need a long stripe) and iron. You will have a stripe 2cm high. Pin the stripe and sew it. Once done fix it with small stitches to your sack.

I have used stripes but you can decor your canvas as you like: draws, aplique, embroidery, or everything you have in mind 🙂
